Unusual Professions – Professional Home Stager

Imagine you are buying a property or even renting. How do you choose your future home? Well, of course the most important are technical and practical aspects that have to be met. But apart from that...and lets be honest...the appearance of the house matters. Many people have difficulties to explain what would they want, but as soon as they see, they know, this is it. It makes you better imagine yourself in a particular house. To sum it up: chances are you won´t go for an apartment or a house which is cluttered, has too many personal belongings or has a very specific style that is attractive to a very narrow group of people. That is where staging comes into the picture.

Home staging is not a very old profession – it was unknown about it 20 years ago – but as we see nowadays, the profession has found its place.

According to reports, upto 81% of the clients thought that staging  helped them imagine their future home.

So as we said a Professional stager helps to improve the chances of  selling a property. How? The original furniture can be used sometimes, other times new furniture and props have to be brought in for this purpose. In such a case, the potential buyer can also decide whether she or he wants to purchase the furniture and the accessories. It often not necessary to move out all the items that have been brought. There are situations where simply getting rid of the personal belongings, rearanging the current furniture and adding some valuable touches in form of a vase or good shower curtain is quite enough.

So is it really important to make the effort? According  to the NAR reports 52% relators believe that staged homes can be sold for 1 – 20 % more than unstaged homes.

What are the requirements?

Apart from professional training in institutions, such as Home Staging Resource and others, this profession does not require specific education. With good taste and an eye for aesthetics it is possible to train yourself.

How much does it pay?

The median is around USD 55 000 per year. The price often varies from house to house, depending on the size of the house or the amount of work the interiors need. Before the aranging of the house, there usually is a consultation when the professional and the owner agree on the expectations and the price.
