The Ambiguity Of Contronyms

Encountering a word that contradicts its own meaning can be a challenge to understanding. Nevertheless, such words exist, and are called contronyms, and their opposite meaning depends on the context of the sentence. On the other hand, many of them are well known and commonly used in both ways. How this works in practice will be found in this article.

Last week we compared the real people behind the stories in the movies.  This weekend‘s picks are related to famous historical figures whose lives have been featured in films. We have asked ourselves the same question in reviewing each film:  did the producers manage to capture the actual appearance and essence of the main characters?

In a world where travel agents are passé and most of us are accustomed to building our own itineraries and making our own bookings, be it transport or hotels,  this start-up has not only launched an app for expert advice on travel through its team but has also raised a whopping 20 million dollars in funding. Its founder, Paul English, has previously co-founded several other companies including Kayak. We asked Mr. English how they run their business in this environment, and more.

Uganda, Luganda, Buganda – a rhyming trio which describes the capital region of Uganda. Kampala – Uganda‘s capital city – grew from the Buganda Kingdom, today a subnational region surrounding the capital. The area is definitely worth visiting. Luganda, on the other hand is one of the major languages spoken among the people who live in the south of Uganda in the territories nearest to the capital city.  Having travelled across the entire country, we end our Uganda Tour in Kampala, where we began.

The Most Iconic Roads

All roads lead to Rome, they say. Whether that is the truth is a matter for each and every one of us to consider.  What is certainly the truth is that there are genuinely iconic roads in this world, and not just the universally known Route 66. Which are they? Check them out in today´s photogallery.

Cairo - the city that never sleeps. Sitting on the banks of the Nile River, Cairo is a witness to Egypt‘s ancient history and conveys a never-ending energy. In case you have a brief stopover in Cairo, here is a guide to what you shouldn´t miss.

The statements "True story" or "Based on a true story" usually give a movie a special status. It‘s easy enough to identify ourselves with the actors who play the roles.  But the real people behind the stories often go unnoticed. This weekend‘s picks will put an end to that: while watching the films from our list, you can at the same time become familiar with those who inspired them.

Life without plastic bags has a shorter history than most people realize. The convenience of picking up any number of plastic bags was initially limited when supermarkets began charging a small amount of money for them and later when supermarkets removed plastic bags from their stores completely. Some countries even went so far as to ban them entirely.

Driverless cars are going to be the order of the day. Be it Tesla, Apple, Uber, Google, or the traditional car makers, the race is on. Think of the convenience. First of all, not having to learn how to drive and then being able to do what you want while being driven automatically to your destination. No steering wheel and no pedals.
