The Generation Google Scholarship

The Generation Google Scholarship was established to help aspiring computer scientists excel in technology and become leaders in the field. A group of undergraduate and graduate students will be chosen from the applicant pool, and scholarships will be awarded based on the strength of each candidate's impact on diversity, demonstrated leadership and academic background. The deadline is on December 6th.

Selected students will receive 10,000 USD (for those studying in the US) or 5,000 CAD (for those studying in Canada) for the 2019-2020 school year will also be invited to attend the Google Scholars’ Retreat in the summer of 2019.

Main criteria

  • Be currently enrolled as a student at an accredited college or university for the 2018-19 academic year
  • Intend to be enrolled in or accepted as a full-time student in a Bachelors, Masters or PhD program at a college or university in the United States or Canada for the 2019-2020 academic year
  • Maintain a strong academic performance
  • Be pursuing a degree in computer science, computer engineering or a degree in a closely related technical field
  • Exemplify leadership and demonstrate passion for improving representation of underrepresented groups in computer science and technology

As part of application, candidates will  be asked to complete an online application which includes:

  • General background information
  • Resume/CV
  • Academic transcripts from your current and prior institutions (if you have earned a prior degree)
  • One letter of reference from a professor, instructor, adviser or supervisor
  • Responses to five short answer essay questions

The scholarship application for high school seniors will open in January as part of the application process for the Google’s Computer Science Summer Institute (CSSI) program.
