The Best Movies From The Thirties

This entire summer, YT will guide you through the best movies from previous decades.  Following up on last week’s silent movies from the twenties we move on to the following decade – the thirties – and some of the best films from that era in motion pictures.

Gone with the Wind

Scarlett O’Hara (Vivien Leigh) and Rhett Butler (Clark Gable) – one of the most iconic couples in film history, and an unforgettable love story against the backdrio of the Civil War. Nine Oscars speak for themselves.  A very well done movie, with innovative special effects, will surely be a good choice for a long evening at the movies. It is also worth mentioning that in the nineties there was a miniseries titled Scarlett, which was a sequal to the film.

It Happened One Night

Ellie Andrews (Claudette Colbert) is a spoiled rich girl on the run, Peter Warne (Clark Gable) is a journalist who helps her while pursuing his own goal of getting an exclusive story.  This small budget comedy brought in five Oscars.

King Kong

King King is proof that some stories are legendary. The number of movies filmed out of this topic is not small.  The special effects will take you back in time, wondering at the handiwork behind them.

Modern Times

One of our last movies will somewhat bring us back to the era of the silent movies as Charlie Chaplin humorously and sarcastically fights a rear-guard action against the effects of the Industrial Revolution – and the mechanizing and automatizing of all aspects of life. Wonder what he would say today.

All Quiet on the Western Front

One of the best books about the First World War. And of course a great topic for a movie. The stories of young German men who make the journey from idealising the war to disillusionment.
